Designs Come To Life

Designs Come To Life

The first factory and manufacturer we visit is Aman’s. His factory is literally two blocks from the hotel, a short walk on the busy streets of the more well known neighborhood of Kathmandu, Thamel. Upon arriving,  there are warm greetings, another delicious cup of chai tea and more sharing and catching up on on each other’s lives. Aman is kind and gentle and makes me feel welcome and at home, encouraging me to ask any questions I may have.

Once the tea is finished the design process starts and the team made up of Aman, Liora and Christina dig into their new design samples. Going through the samples they have been discussing and working on with Aman prior to their arrival, Christina or Liora try them on. This is the first time they are seeing their designs come to life and you can feel the excitement and energy grow as they begin going through each piece.

The creativity flows as fresh new ideas pop into what feels like a cohesive mind between Liora, Christina and Aman. You can instantly tell they have been working together for many years because of how they can quickly communicate their thoughts with each other  and how they get excited with each others ideas, changes or additions.

Watching them,  it is fascinating to see how they work through a new design process.  It becomes alive, evolving and growing between their creative thoughts. Fabrics are pulled out, pencils appear, drawings are sketched, materials on samples are cut or removed on the spot. It starts as a concept and morphs into a great design.

There are no details spared. The artistry begins to shine as they orchestrate the colors of beautifully embroidered mandalas to match other subtle, yet impactful elements in the design. A simple stitch of color all of a sudden transforms the piece to a whole other level.

And this is just in the first day! It is merely a revving up for the days to come where new concepts and ideas are brought to the table, where new samples are made and where the new Jayli line is born.
